The EDAPTS Project
The Efficient Deployment of Advanced Public Transportation Systems (EDAPTS) Smart Transit System is an open-source Transportation Management System that was researched, developed, and tested by California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo under grant from Caltrans Department of Research and Innovation. The system is designed to be low cost, easily configurable to local needs, and non-proprietary to aid small, medium, and rural transit properties in attaining ITS benefits. Additionally, this system is built from the ground up based on the Federal Highway Administration National ITS Architecture and Transit Communications Interface Profiles that were emerging early in this project.
The EDAPTS Smart Transit System Project source code is released under the L-GPL open-source public-domain software license to provide a blueprint for other transit properties or value-added integrators to utilize in deploying like systems. User manuals for the Smart Transit Sign and Mobile Data Terminal are also available, completing the blueprint required for others to replicate the system.
